Congratulation, you have collected the keys to your new home! The next thing on your to-do list is your renovation.

Here are 5 important things to consider before you begin your dream home renovation.


1. Decide budget

How much are you going to spend on your renovation project? You may have a figure, say RM 100,000, in mind. But when you

add up the expenditure on some desirous items, it is likely that your total will exceed this figure. In fact, if you have a budget

of RM 80,000, you should keep the total of the expenses in the range of RM 80,000 to RM 90,000. Why should you keep such

a large buffer? During the renovation, you will probably think of additional improvements. Not only that, home renovations might

encounter some unforeseen circumstances that prolong the construction and increase the overall cost of the project.


2. Do research

3. Choose a reliable interior designer and/or contractor & ask for a renovation quotation

You can do some background check through the website before you engaging your interior designer. Besidesword of mouth

recommendations from friends and family, website do provide transparent customer reviews,designer capability ranking and etc.

Arrange a site meet up with few interior designers for site measurement,share your expectation and let them understand your needs.

Most of the time, interior designer will take about 3 - 7 days to furnish the quotation depend on designer capability and experience.

4. Compare the quotation & make right decision

How many quotations should i compare? Minimum 2 to 3 is good enough. Some owners wish to get many quotations for price

comparison however more is not necessary good. You might end up not able to make decision because overloaded with too much

information. Actually during the research stage, you should ableto select some interior designers who suit your taste after browse

through their past projects and some ex-customers review. Thing to remember, don’t be shy to question on whether certain materials or

works are necessary for you home and make sure to double-check all individual costs before signing off the contract and paying the deposit.
